Michael Taylor Search & Selection are currently working with a well-established and growing Principal Contractor to recruit a Estimator to join their Commercial team. The business has over 30 years’ experience in the construction and fit-out sector with in-house delivery teams and a strong reputation for quality, collaboration and long-term client relationships.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced estimator with a fit-out and principal contracting background who is looking to join a stable, forward-thinking contractor with a strong pipeline of work and clear growth plans.
You will be working exclusively on fit-out projects across Data Centres, Commercial Offices, Financial Services and Retail environments, offering a varied and technically interesting workload.
The Role
The Estimator will play a key role in supporting the continued growth of the business, working closely with the wider Estimating and Commercial teams. You will be responsible for producing compliant, competitive tenders from initial enquiry through to handover, with regular exposure to clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
The role requires someone who is self-motivated, comfortable working under pressure, and confident managing their own workload, while also being a strong team player.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret client briefs and tender documents to produce detailed and accurate estimates
Attend site and tender walkthroughs to validate drawings and identify risks or opportunities
Liaise with internal teams and external consultants to coordinate fully inclusive estimates
Carry out accurate take-offs for materials, labour and prelims
Prepare tender programmes, scopes of work and clarifications
Issue RFIs to resolve unclear specifications or design queries
Obtain and negotiate competitive subcontractor and supplier pricing
Participate in tender reviews, preconstruction meetings and project handovers
Support smooth transition from preconstruction to delivery teams
Requirements:
Proven background in fit-out contracting
Strong experience in estimating and pricing within a Principal Contractor environment
Good understanding of building regulations and construction sequencing
Confident managing multiple tenders and deadlines
Proficient in MS Office, including Excel, Word and MS Project
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Full UK driving licence and willingness to attend site/tender walkthroughs nationwide
