Overview
SEDR Recruitment is seeking an experienced Plant Inspector to join a civil engineering and earthworks contractor delivering a major infrastructure package in the London area.
The role involves carrying out planned and ad-hoc inspections on heavy plant and vehicles to ensure compliance with company standards, client specifications, and statutory requirements. You will play a key role in maintaining safe, efficient, and compliant operations across one of the UK’s largest earthworks schemes.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct pre-delivery inspections (PDIs) on earthworks plant and vehicles, recording hours, condition, and existing damage.
Complete on- and off-hire checks, photographic records, and update inspection databases.
Apply plant identification stickers and maintain accurate equipment registers.
Check and maintain plant safety systems including reversing alarms, cameras, beacons, and lighting.
Inspect and top-up fluids, grease pots, and lubrication systems; carry out basic greasing where required.
Conduct weekly condition checks on tyres, ground engaging tools (GET), and undercarriage components.
Support fault diagnosis, liaising with the plant desk or OEM technicians for rectification.
Control stock of lubricants and consumables, maintaining COSHH compliance within workshop areas.
Issue and manage Maintenance Permits to Work for OEM or external maintenance staff.
Produce and follow Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work for inspection and maintenance activities.
Assist with minor fitting tasks such as filter changes, bulb replacements, and GET replacement.
Requirements
Essential
Experience maintaining or inspecting heavy plant and site vehicles within earthworks or infrastructure projects.
NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Plant Maintenance or Mechanical Engineering.
CSCS Blue Skilled Worker Card.
Full UK driving licence.
Basic computer literacy and ability to maintain inspection records.
Physically fit and able to work in all weather conditions.
Desirable
CPCS A68 Plant Mover card.
Welding or mechanical repair experience.
Familiarity with Caterpillar, Volvo, Komatsu, or other Tier 1 OEM equipment.
Salary and Package
Base salary: £40,000 to £50,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Lodge allowance: £21,630 per year (paid monthly)
Car allowance: £5,000 per annum
Bonus: 10% annual performance bonus
